During the wedding
The officiant leads the ceremony, guides you through your vows and the exchange of rings, and performs the legal solemnization — the part that actually makes the marriage.
After the wedding
The officiant certifies the facts of the marriage and files the record with the clerk's office that issued your license within five days. You then order certified copies from that court.
