Your Virginia marriage license
Paying $150 does not, by itself, make you legally married. You are responsible for obtaining a valid Virginia marriage license from a Virginia circuit court clerk's office before the marriage is performed. Any Virginia circuit court can issue it, there is no residency requirement, and it authorizes a marriage for 60 days from the date of issuance. The marriage must take place in Virginia. After the ceremony, the officiant certifies the facts of the marriage and files the record with the office that issued the license within five days. Came For The Cake performs the officiant portion of the marriage and completes and returns the officiant's portion of the documentation as required. Requirements, fees and appointment rules vary by court — confirm current details with the clerk's office you plan to use.
