How Much Does a Wedding Officiant Cost in Virginia?

Officiant pricing varies widely because officiants are not all doing the same job. A ten-minute legal formality and a fully written ceremony with a rehearsal are two different services.

• Paperwork Wedding — a flat $150 for the officiant portion of your marriage, without a traditional ceremony.
• Custom Wedding Ceremony — quoted individually after you complete the ceremony intake form.

What affects a custom ceremony quote

• How much of the ceremony is written and personalized
• Location and travel
• Whether a rehearsal is requested, and whether rehearsal dinner attendance is requested
• Ceremony length and special elements
• Venue or family requirements that add planning time

Rehearsal attendance and rehearsal dinner attendance are never assumed to be included — they are quoted based on what you actually want.

Questions worth asking any officiant

• Are you authorized to perform marriages in Virginia?
• Who returns the completed marriage record to the court, and when?
• Is the ceremony written for us, or a standard script?
• Are travel, rehearsal or extra time charged separately?

The marriage license fee is paid separately to the circuit court clerk — it isn't part of any officiant's price.
